The 2025 World of Work Class Graduates Celebrate Growth and New Beginnings!

The energy was high, the smiles were big, and the applause was loud as students in Aspire of WNY’s World of Work (WOW) program gathered on June 6th for their graduation celebration at Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant and Banquet Facility! Surrounded by family, friends, teachers, and circles of support, the graduates proudly marked the end of a year filled with hard work, personal growth, and plenty of new experiences.

The WOW program is all about helping students build the skills they need to succeed—whether it’s mastering new job tasks, building confidence, or learning how to advocate for themselves. Throughout the year, participants had the chance to roll up their sleeves and dive into real-life work experiences, while also gaining valuable social skills and discovering new strengths along the way.

A big part of WOW’s success comes from its partnerships with local businesses and school districts. By teaming up with businesses across the community, Aspire of WNY creates hands-on opportunities where students can explore different careers, build their résumés, and get a feel for the working world. This year, students gained experience at businesses like Wegmans, Tops Friendly Markets, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Joann Fabrics, Gabe’s, The Country Inn and Suites Hotel, Green Acres Veterinary Center, Hawthorn Suites Hotel, the SPCA, and many more!

At the graduation event, guests enjoyed light breakfast and refreshments while celebrating the students’ accomplishments. One by one, each graduate took to the stage to be recognized and receive a special award highlighting one of their unique strengths. The real showstoppers, though, were the heartfelt speeches each student gave, reflecting on their WOW experience and sharing how much they’ve grown throughout the process.

Karen, one of this year’s graduates, shared how WOW helped her discover just how capable and confident she really is. “The WOW program helped me grow in confidence, taught me how to advocate for myself, and showed me how personable and outgoing I really am. I learned that I am neat and orderly, and can always keep my workstation clean.” Karen gained hands-on experience during her internship at Wegmans, working in the produce and marché departments.

Everyone was reaching for the tissues when Mr. Dave, a mentor from Wegmans who worked closely with many of the students throughout the year, stepped up to the stage to share his experience. “We may teach the students job skills, but I believe all of us at Wegmans have probably learned more from the students than they’ve learned from us,” Dave said. “Every year, when it’s time for the students to leave, staff members come in on their days off just to say goodbye and thank them for all their hard work. These students are some of the kindest and most generous people I’ve had the privilege to work with. Their energy and enthusiasm make what I do my favorite thing in the world.”

Aspire of WNY is incredibly grateful to all the school districts, businesses, team members, and families who help make the WOW program possible. Your support helps open doors to endless possibilities for the individuals we support. The World of Work reflects what Aspire of WNY is all about–helping people realize their full potential and live as independently as possible! We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this amazing group of graduates!
