Now, they’re helping something new take root!
Thanks to generous grant funding from the Enterprise Mobility Foundation, Aspire of WNY’s newest initiative—Beleaf-Abilities—is getting ready to blossom!
Beleaf-Abilities is a growing iniative across various agency locations, where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can plant seeds, nurture life, and watch their hard work bloom! The belief-abilities garden spaces will provide hands-on experience in growing vegetables, herbs, flowers, and more, all while cultivating confidence, communication, and a sense of purpose.
“With the support of the Enterprise Mobility Foundation, the individuals we support are not only planting seeds in the soil, but also growing confidence, independence, and a deep connection to the world around them,” shares Megan Rechin, Vice President of Communications and Growth Opportunities at Aspire of WNY.
But starting scratch takes more than a green thumb! It takes tools, soil, seeds, shovels, watering cans, and, most of all, support. With this grant from the Enterprise Mobility Foundation, Aspire of WNY can begin planting new garden spaces across Erie and Chautauqua counties!
The benefits stretch far beyond the garden beds. Participants will build fine motor skills as they dig, plant, and water. They’ll practice teamwork and patience as they share space and responsibilities. They’ll learn about the life cycle of plants and the importance of detail, care, and attention. And with every sprout that breaks through the soil, every bloom that opens to the sun, they’ll gain something more—pride.
It’s a chance to connect with nature in a meaningful way, to feel the reward of effort, and to experience joy in the small, everyday wins: spotting a new bud, tasting fresh herbs, or seeing a bee buzzing from one flower to the next.
In every handful of soil, there’s a lesson waiting. In every plant, the promise of something new and beautiful.
