Employee Spotlight: Aspire of WNY Transportation Driver by Day, Captain Dave by Night

Aspire of WNY driver, sports podcaster, and longtime member of the Bills Mafia, Dave Kaprosch wears many hats (and maybe even a cape.). Beginning his tenure at our agency in 2021, Dave filled the role of a respite transportation driver after his retirement from his long-time position as a Fed-Ex courier earlier that year.

If you’re from the Buffalo area, you may have heard of Dave’s alter ego, Captain Dave. For 33 years, he has shown up to Buffalo Bills games, both home and away, wearing his famous Bills cape. It all started during the 1990 season when Dave showed up to a Buffalo Bills game in a red hard hat, a garbage can lid, as a superhero shield, and a Buffalo Bills towel draped around his back like a cape. From there on out, when Dave steps into the Bills stadium, he becomes Captain Dave. “I grew up watching Batman and Robin and all the other superheroes so that just became my character,” Dave explains.

Let it be known, though, that even cape-wearing superheroes still have day jobs. In Dave’s role as a transportation driver at Aspire of WNY, he ensures that individuals who receive services through our agency can get from one place to another as safely and efficiently as possible. “Working at Aspire of WNY is extremely fulfilling. I’m definitely a people person, and I just feel like I’m exactly where I need to be,” says Dave.

When asked if he has a favorite memory from working at Aspire of WNY, Dave explains that there isn’t one specific thing that stands out to him because “every single day, there’s something that puts a smile on my face, or I’m able to put a smile on one of their faces.” Dave shares a very special bond with one individual, in particular, Simone. “When I go to pick up Simone, she giggles the minute she hears my voice. It just gives me a nice boost and charge for the rest of the day,” explains Dave. “When Dave picks up Simone, she laughs and screams and chatters all the way to the program. She’s so happy to see him; he’s her favorite person,” says Simone’s mother.

Of course, though, when Dave is not transporting individuals who receive services through Aspire of WNY, you can probably find him at Highmark Stadium every Sunday in a cape and helmet, cheering for his favorite team. Dave also runs a Buffalo Bills sports podcast off his Facebook page, “Hit the Showers”, where he posts pre and post-game video updates and lots of Bills-related memes. Dave was also recently recognized by Kevin O’Neil from WGRZ Channel 2. Check out the video and article here!

So this Sunday, when you’re cheering on the Buffalo Bills as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, remember that Captain Dave not only makes a huge impact with the Bills Mafia, but also right here at Aspire of WNY! Thanks, Dave, for all you do to support the individuals we serve.
