Pause for a Cause: Martin Luther King Jr. Day & Holocaust Remembrance Day

Aspire of WNY’s Quality Partnership on Diversity & Inclusion (QPDI) takes time to identify key dates throughout the year where we can all spend a moment, or more, pausing and reflecting on their meaning and impact across people, communities, and the world. In January 2024, QPDI is sharing these reflections:

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, observed on the third Monday of January each year, commemorates the life and legacy of the iconic civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This federal holiday honors King’s tireless efforts in advocating for racial equality, justice, and nonviolent activism during the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

The day serves as a reminder to reflect on the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality, inspiring individuals to contribute to a more inclusive and just society. Many communities celebrate the occasion with events, marches, and service projects that promote unity and the principles championed by Dr. King.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed on January 27th, is a solemn occasion to honor the millions of victims who suffered and perished during the Holocaust. QPDI recognizes the significance of this historic day and is committed to promoting awareness, understanding, and empathy. In the upcoming days, our team will be honoring Holocaust Remembrance Day with a special incentive that encourages employees to engage in educational activities, discussions, and reflections on the impact of the Holocaust.

The Why with QPDI

QPDI’s purpose is to nurture and sustain an inclusive culture where we value and recognize our differences and allow them to drive initiatives and solutions to better support people receiving services and our workforce at Aspire of WNY. If you are interested in joining the team, please email the committee at QPDI@aspirewny.org OR send the committee an SCOMM via Therap: Committee, QPDI/Committee (Aspire of WNY).
