I want to share a story and a cause near and dear to my heart on this Giving Tuesday…
I know that many of you are aware that my son, William (“Billy”), benefits from the services of Aspire of WNY. However, I’m not sure if you fully understand the profound impact these services have on individuals with special needs in the WNY community. Billy, Buffalo’s biggest Bills and Sabres fan, has been a recipient of Aspire of WNY’s services for almost 20 years. I’ve had the honor of serving on Aspire of WNY’s Board of Directors and its Foundation Board for over a decade, and I can personally attest to the life-changing services that the dedicated employees of this agency provide to individuals with special needs 24/7, 365 days a year.
With Aspire of WNY’s help, my son Billy receives support at his two jobs as well as needed assistance from direct care professionals (DSPs) at his home. The agency’s Day Services also provide volunteer opportunities, socialization, and work on personal goals with Billy. He is just one person who receives services from all these areas, as do hundreds of other individuals with special needs throughout Erie and Chautauqua Counties, thanks to Aspire of WNY.
At Aspire of WNY, we believe that all individuals, regardless of their abilities, should have the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams. However, we face a constant challenge: New York State significantly underfunds the specialized services these individuals need to thrive and live the lives that they dream about and deserve.
Aspire of WNY is currently running its Annual Campaign, a crucial initiative that bridges the funding gap for our underfunded programs. Your support will enable us to provide adaptive and assistive technology, programs, and residential assistance that are integral to our individuals’ daily lives, as well as access to the community and employment opportunities.
