Turning Disabilities into Capabilities
In 1964, the New York State Elks Association agreed to help fund a new program that would provide services to people with disabilities in their own homes. As a result, the Cerebral Palsy of New York State Home Service Program was created. Although our name has since changed, we still enjoy the benefits of this longstanding collaboration.
Today, our Home Service Program offers individualized services to more than 300 people with developmental disabilities and their families annually. The resources provided include:
- evaluation and referral services
- advocacy
- counseling
- follow-up
- program development
Through the Elks’ collaboration with our home service program, Aspire is able to reach out to families and individuals who may not have had access to services in the past. We make referrals and linkages that can very positively affect their future.
