Turning Disabilities into Capabilities

Respite Respite

When a parent discovers their child has a disability, the adjustment isn’t a one time event. Rather, it is a lifelong process that includes periods of stress and uncertainty. For thousands of Western New Yorkers, respite has proven to be a vital service that improves their lives. Aspire offers a variety of respite programs to meet your individual needs:

After-School Respite

Focusing on leisure and recreational activities, the program is available for children and young adults with disabilities, three to 18 years of age at Aspire’s Center for Learning.  Activities include arts and crafts, baking, outdoor/indoor gross motor games, and free play. There are regular opportunities for younger children, under the age of 12, to be integrated into Aspire’s Children’s Discovery Corner day care.  Program Hours: 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM.

Fredonia Saturday Respite

Families of individuals age 12 and older with developmental disabilities are invited to join the Fredonia Saturday Respite, which offers a five-hour program serving primarily Chautauqua County. A variety of recreational activities are provided, including community trips.

Free Standing Respite

Free Standing Respite offers a place for people with developmental disabilities to spend time away from home, thereby freeing their family members to run errands, attend social events, etc.

Cheektowaga Recreation Respite

Families of individuals ages 15 to 60 with developmental disabilities who live at home are offered a seven hour Saturday respite at Aspire’s Cheektowaga sites. The program offers a variety of recreational activities, including community trips. Services are available for two Saturdays per month (9:30 AM to 4:30 PM), as well as some weekday activities.
